Denver Union Station

The Union Station Transit Improvement Project is transforming Denver's historic Union Station into a regional multi-modal transportation hub. The 19.5 acre, $368 million project is located in downtown Denver and includes an underground bus terminal (23 FT below grade) containing 22 bus slips, 40,000 square-foot underground passenger concourse, eight-track commuter rail station and the relocation of the existing light rail station.

This unique project brings together many different transportation modes, along with private development, to create a new urban center. The redevelopment includes several new significant public spaces: Wynkoop Plaza, 17th Street Promenade/Gardens, Wewatta Pavilion and Light Rail Plaza. The public spaces will create a series of interconnected places that will tie the site together, allowing visitors to move from one destination to another. The historic station will continue to have a prominent role in the new multi-modal transit district. The train room will be rehabilitated to its historic prominence as a transportation gateway to Denver, connecting the east and west sides of the site.

The project is being delivered under a design-build contract and requires extensive coordination with multiple stake holders, including RTD, CDOT, City and County of Denver and DRCOG. Kiewit has been actively involved with the project since the design-development phase, which began in May, 2009. The project is scheduled to complete in April, 2014.
