Valley Metro Line Section 1

In 2005, Valley Metro Rail awarded the $56 million Line Section 1 project to Kiewit Western Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation. The 2.27-mile portion of this new light rail system will run through one of the most traveled corridors in the region.

The project scope includes the preparation of trackbed and installation of embedded track, three station platform foundations, roadway improvements, drainage modifications, system-wide ductbank installation, traffic signals, signage, pavement marking, street lighting, an overhead catenary system pole foundation, demolition, relocation of utilities, landscaping and irrigation.

Kiewit has worked closely with Valley Metro Rail and local businesses and stakeholders to mitigate traffic congestion while working quickly and safely to meet key milestones set by the client. The Line Section 1 (LS1) team has earned a 100 percent approval rating each month from the LS1 Community Advisory Board for its proactive efforts to inform and involve the community in all phases of the project.
