IH-30 Tom Landry Highway

In February 2003, Gilbert Texas Construction, L.P., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, was awarded this $98 million project to widen and reconstruct the existing IH-30 from east of Loop 12 to Sylvan Ave.

The work involves approximately 4.5 miles of reconstruction to create four new lanes in each direction. The new roadway is concrete with asphalt or concrete shoulders. The work also includes reconstruction of 11 bridges; construction of four types of retaining walls; 5,200 cubic yards of gabion; and major drainage enhancements. In an effort to minimize the inconvenience to the traveling public, project management coordinated with the client to re-phase the original 54-month project to a 30-month reduced scheduled completion.

Major quantities include 700,000 cubic yards of embankment; 1.1 million cubic yards of excavation; 200,000 cubic yards of concrete paving; 300,000 square feet of precast retaining walls; and 34,000 feet of pipe. The project reached substantial completion on March 31, 2006.
